Unique work
Carlos Jacanamijoy Tisoy (Putumayo, Colombia, 1964) is a prominent indigenous artist from the Inga community. He graduated in 1991 with a degree in Fine Arts, with an emphasis on painting, from the National University of Colombia. Jacanamijoy's work is inspired by his interaction with the Sibundoy Valley and its surrounding lands, which extend into the jungles of Putumayo. Art historian Álvaro Medina coined the term "realistic abstraction" to describe his work. This concept helps to understand the multicolored and tonal strokes present in the artist's rich pictorial universe, originating from his reflection on his homeland, one of the most biodiverse regions in the world.
Jacanamijoy's work is rich in meaning and deeply rooted in the everyday respect for Inga culture. His works reflect a set of spiritual values that guide the use of natural elements, including botanical wonders such as ayahuasca or yagé.
